HELP Haiti

Here is a list I have started compiling all of the ways you can get involved in the Haiti relief effort. Please spread the word and link to this list as necessary

List is continuously updated. Note that some organizations allow you to donate via text message. The charge will come out on your phone bill.

Clinton Foundation
Helping to provide immediate relief and long-term support to earthquake survivors. Text “HAITI” to 20222 and $10 will be given to the Clinton Foundation’s Haiti Relief Fund, charged to your cell phone bill.

MADRE
MADRE is bringing emergency medical assistance and supplies, including bandages, broad-spectrum antibiotics, and water tablets to prevent cholera outbreaks, to areas in Haiti that have been hardest hit by the earthquake.

Wyclef Jean’s foundation will also be on the ground.

Children are among the most vulnerable following any natural disaster, and the United Nations mission to Haiti was destroyed in the earthquake.

Water.org
They work to provide sustainable sources of clean, safe water to under-served populations, and will be helping facilitate the repair and construction of new sources of water in Haiti.

This L.A. non-profit provides medical care in some of the world’s most dangerous regions. They’re on their way to Haiti.

WFP is already on the ground and has” launched its emergency procedures, which involve distributing high energy biscuits and other emergency food assistance to those affected.

This hospital is located close to ground zero of the earthquake and many med students and doctors were injured but are still assisting far too many patients. My brother Eliot is a med student at Cornell and is trying to get money going directly to the hospital instead of getting caught up in bureaucratic non-profit system. http://www.med.cornell.edu/globalhealth

Recently designed logo for Oil + Water: The Future of Green Development in LA, an event organized by architect Chris Corbett. About the event: Framed around the literal and figurative meanings of the city’s most critical resources: oil and water, the event will examine how the historically contentious relationships between public and private development must be bridged to create a sustainable Los Angeles.

Website for Boston based industrial design firm, Essential Design. The site presents the firms work as case studies in context to each other. In this way it communicates the broad spectrum of work created by Essential. The site also is designed to scale and grow over time and allow a level of flexibility for work to be added and shared. Designed for Tank Design with David Warren.

Poster created in support of Barack Obama’s Campaign for President of the United State’s. The poster was one of 5 winners in the Manifest Hope Competition, sponsored by Move On and Obey, and was on display in the Manifest Hope show in Denver during the Democratic National Convention. The poster was also a part of Roma per Obama, an event in Rome sponsored by the Italian Democratic Party in support of Barack Obama.

Stamp Design Workshop

Poster announcing a postage stamp design workshop given by visiting designer Jessica Helfand. The poster doesn’t state that the workshop is about designing postage stamps. Instead it makes reference to the process of producing a postage stamp in all elements of the poster. A custom perforation typeface was created and the main information was laser cut through each poster.

Poster based on an article from GOOD Magazine which raises the point that the Pentagon or Department of Defense is one of the leading investors in renewable resource technology.
This poster was an experiment in the use of iconography. I was attempting to see if the pentagon shape can be used as a symbol for recycling and as a symbol for the Department of Defense in the same document.

Open Crit

Typographic system for posters publicizing an open critique in 2007. The system was designed to be printed in numbers of three or more. The type was representative of the event, a shell that contained the work of three very different designers. Each poster contained a selection of work from one of the designers, and the typographic shell was applied over the work and positioned so multiple posters could be connected together.

Global Warming Poster/ing

Poster designed to raise awareness of the issues associated with global warming. The poster contains an ever growing compilation of articles drawn from a variety of sources. The articles are curated and given a column size priority as they might in a newspaper. They are then affixed to the main poster according to their date. The poster contains a generic calendar grid of 31 days. The articles are posted according to which day they are published. Over time the mass of articles that builds is intended to help show how big the problems really are. In addition all articles are printed on the backside of discarded paper.
